Job Done

I plan to write a few words each day. Often early in the day. Today I was awake really early. Eyes open, properly wide awake. What to do? I picked up my tablet, maybe to write but I searched out a film. Now aside from the “blue screen" problem I was about to experience, I need to find a gentle film. It’s not the best time of day for too much adrenaline coursing though my busy veins. I found a film based on a book by Nick Hornby called Juliet, Naked;

Juliet, Naked is the story of Annie (the long-suffering girlfriend of Duncan) and her unlikely transatlantic romance with once revered, now faded, singer-songwriter, Tucker Crowe, who also happens to be the subject of Duncan's musical obsession. This is not necessarily a recommendation just sharing my rather tame nocturnal activities. Anyway it was just the ticket. (Last day to watch on Netflix: March 24).

Film over I’m still wide awake. I’ll make a cake. I have a favourite fruit cake that I haven’t made in a while. An apricot fruit cake. So I quietly got out of bed. Picked up my recipe folder and set about some nocturnal cake making. Two hours from start to finish. That’ll do nicely. I popped it into the oven. When the cake was done I was planning to get back to bed for a while for a rest then go to Charlestown for some rule breaking with a few friends at 10:30. Good plan? Not really. I went back to sleep. Never mind, Tricia got her people fix and a walk as well, there and back. I would have had to get into the car anyway depriving Tricia of a rather pleasant walk. Lovely walking weather.

So the simplest plans are, for me at least, constantly changing and I’m planning a birthday party? Madness!

So back to my post premise “I plan to write a few words each day”. Well perhaps not every day. But my posts have been getting bigger lately and that being the case they’ve become more of a challenge even a chore.

So I ask my self this. What’s best? A long rambling narrative tenuously linking some random memories with present events that spring to mind or shall I write I couldn't sleep so I watched a film, made a cake then went back to sleep missing my trip to Charlestown? It’s now almost 11:30 I need to take my medication so I’ll stop.

Job done.
